Vermilion Heritage Foundation Announces Strategic Restructuring to Ensure Long-Term Sustainability
For Immediate Release, April 16, 2025 — The Vermilion Heritage Foundation Board of Directors announces a significant operational change as part of its ongoing efforts to ensure the long-term sustainability and continued fulfillment of its mission and preservation of the Historic Fischer Theatre. Through careful consideration, we have chosen a path forward that balances fiscal responsibility with our commitment to providing access to the arts for this community for many years to come.
After several years of nonprofit struggles and hands-on learning, the board has made the difficult but necessary decision to restructure its organizational model. This restructuring includes the transition from a full-time Executive Director to a part-time Executive Director, with a hybrid model dependent on increased support from the Board of Directors and partnerships with community arts organizations. Additionally, the staff and board will continue creative fundraising efforts, efforts at engaging the public, and strategies to reduce the financial burden to gain a solid footing, carrying the organization into a bright future.
As a result of this decision, Crystal Bivans’ last day in the role of Executive Director will be April 30, 2025. This is not a decision we took lightly, and we are deeply grateful for her leadership, support, and extensive efforts to keep the Fischer running during her four years of service. Crystal has been a cornerstone for fulfilling the mission of the theatre and a steady and professional presence for our patrons, staff, and volunteers.
Current Board President, Ashton Greer, will be stepping down from presidency and fulfilling the role of interim director temporarily during this critical time. Ruey Sandusky will be filling the role of President for the remainder of the year. The Vermilion Heritage Foundation remains steadfast in its mission to steward this amazing landmark for future generations while adapting to the realities of a changing nonprofit landscape. We are deeply grateful to all those who have supported the Fischer throughout the years — from staff and volunteers to community members and donors, thank you. We remain fully dedicated to the vitality and longevity of the Fischer.
